GelairTM tea tree oil gel-matrix is a patented biodegradable gel containing top quality 100% natural Australian tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is an essential oil distilled from the Australian plant Melaleuca alternifolia.

Multiple studies have demonstrated the capacity for tea tree oil to serve as an antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and anti-inflammatory agent. For almost a century it has been used for one or more of these purposes.

When installed in the air-conditioning system, the gel releases tea tree oil vapour to eliminate mould, bacteria and other harmful microorganisms in the air handling units, air ducts and rooms served by the air-conditioning system. Tests conducted at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital have demonstrated significant reduction in airborne bacterial and fungal count after placement of Gelair gel-matrix in the air-conditioning system.

Enhancing Indoor Environmental Quality

It is not only desirable, but also a fundamental human right to live and work in spaces with healthy indoor environments. By destroying microbes and other harmful pathogens, Gelair creates a safe, healthy and productive working and living environment.

The tea tree oil in Gelair kills all three categories of infectious organisms:

  • Bacteria (antiseptic/bactericide)
  • Viruses (viricide)
  • Fungi, moulds and mildew (fungicide)

Australian tea tree oil kills Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, even stubborn germs like Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Legionella Pneumophila (Legionnaires’ disease). MRSA has been termed ‘hospital super-bug’ because of its resistance to methicillin and vancomycin antibiotics.

Research has also shown that tea tree oil has an antiviral activity against influenza A/PR/8 virus subtype H1N1 and that antiviral activity has been principally attributed to terpinen-4-ol, the main active component of tea tree oil. (Garozzo A., Timpanaro R., Bisignano B., Furneri P.M., Bisignano G., Castro A.In vitro antiviral activity of Melaleuca alternifolia essential oil”, Lett Appl Microbiol. 2009 Dec;49(6):806-8. Epub 2009 Sep 18.)

Gelair is penetrating – its vapours penetrate into porous materials, where they provide a lasting protection. The vapours saturate the air, spread by diffusion and chase biological pathogens into low-ventilated corners and even into sheetrock, ceilings, upholstery, and carpeting.
